Description
I titled this piece "Shaconage" in honor of the Cherokee Indian nation that considered the Great Smoky's to be a sacred place. The word means "land of the blue smoke". European settlers would also name the nearby Blue Ridge Mountains, inspired by the Cherokee peoples.
It seems layers upon layers of mountains stretch as far as the eyes can see from the numerous vantage points in Great Smoky Mountain National Park. The mountain range is known for its often thick hazy skies, and it makes for a great opportunity to photograph the pastel hues and varied density of the mountains as you extend your vision to distant peaks and valleys!
