Description
This could very well be my personal favorite from a spectacular extended photo session in Montana's Glacier National Park. The title was inspired by naturalist John Muir.
Prior to the actual photo session, much-advanced scouting takes place. The calm conditions on Two Medicine Lake are very rare. The soft golden alpine glow bathing the Rocky Mountain front are legendary and rarely properly captured. We set up in near darkness on the east shore and immediately knew the water was going to produce mirror-like reflections. This heightened the anticipation and really caused the adrenaline to rush!
Equipment set up was done with a bright headlamp, while carefully monitoring for approaching Grizzly and Black Bears. A Grizzly visit certainly would have altered our plans! The stillness of the morning was zen like, occasional trout would jump from the water to catch a morning meal.
The very first light of morning illuminated the underside of the high clouds with incredible tones. Reds, oranges, and magenta are all present. We knew within a few short moments, if mother nature allowed for it we were going to be in for one ripper of a sunrise! Then it happened, alpenglow finally emerged on Sinopah. The moment is fleeting, at best without cloud interference you have less than 10 minutes before the light becomes too harsh.

Amazing place. We had a Montana house years ago, and at one point were part time status. Was so happy to get back!
