This lovely autumnal scenic in West Bennington Vermont, under a canopy of brilliantly glowing maples sporting peak foliage, is home to quite a historical lineage of events. Behind the graceful white swag, picket fence is the Bennington Centre Cemetary. It is also the site of the Battle of Bennington where King George's mercenaries met a fateful defeat at the hands of Colonial Rebel soldiers. Those that died, British and Colonial Americans, were buried in a mass grave in the middle of the cemetery. Their final resting place could hardly be a more dignified quintessential New England setting.
The cemetery also lies behind the historic "Old First Church" of Bennington. If you gaze into this wonderfully detailed image, you'll see a glimpse of the church where the beautiful fence seems to lead to infinity. One of the most notable and distinguished men buried in the cemetery is poet Robert Frost.
