Description
An interesting view looking at the historic Grafton Ghost Towns schoolhouse from inside an old cabin's window. This old Ghost Town has quite the storied past. Grafton was first settled along the Virgin River in 1859 by 5 Mormon families. In 1862, a flash flood wiped out the entire town sweeping away all of its buildings. The settlers did not give up, and reestablished Grafton just .75 miles upstream.
Conflicts with the native Black Hawk tribe led Brigham Young to call on all settlements to combine in towns of at least 150 strong. Grafton was abandoned, however, residents would return to tend their crops. In 1868, the settlers returned once again and built the adobe schoolhouse which is visible through the window here.
