Description
The artistic results of my personal inspiration for an idyllic countryside landscape in Connecticut's bucolic Litchfield Hills. I usually hear people say "Oh... the old Red Saltbox barn" but historically, the oldtimers refer to it correctly as the Lindberg.
The Lindberg's barn is a traditional Colonial-era 30x40 English Style barn. These are the oldest style barns that still exist in the Berkshires region and Connecticut's rural countryside. English Style barns were the first notable roadside "dairy farm stands" to come into existence mostly used as creameries to make cheese and butter.
This vintage architecture has always drawn me to it like a moth to light, but I never seemed to be able to catch it off guard and capture its personality. By chance, I happened to visit a gallery with Eric Sloan paintings in the collection. In his life, he was also a resident of Warren and Kent Ct (same as myself) and I'm moved by his old barn and Connecticut landscape paintings. Although he never painted the Lindberg, I had a sudden epiphany after being artistically inspired by his works and I had a vision of what my own scene should look like including the season, the lighting and atmosphere.
To complete the final print version, I created a semi-transparent texture layer for a slightly painterly effect.
